Vision
“Unity in Christ is not something to be achieved; it is something to be recognized.”
Even with all of its diversity, imagine for just a moment what would happen if the individual members of the Body of Christ, came together for a purpose bigger than themselves. What if everyone was willing to acknowledge his/her contributions, so that the Body as a whole would benefit?
Now ask yourself this question: do you want this thought to become a reality? If so, keep reading…
The Music Ministry of Joined at the Hip exists for two primary reasons:
- We purpose to provide a viable alternative and an antidote to the poison that has overtaken mainstream media. Having spent several years laboring in urban ministry, it’s apparent to us that if we encourage people to not listen to secular music, but at the same time do not provide a reputable replacement, we do them a disservice (see Matthew 12:43-45). Eventually, those same people will gravitate back to the very thing they are trying to get away from because we’re inherently creatures of habit. Our music ministry is an outreach/evangelism tool that uses the gift of hip-hop music to impact lives by relevantly communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Secondly, we desire to edify, encourage & enlighten our fellow Ministers of God-glorifying hip-hop. Why? Ephesians 4:12-13 sums it up: “Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.”
Joined at the Hip seeks to build networks of fellowship among all of the different artists, groups, organizations & ministries, so that godliness is not just a topic heard in our music; it accurately describes our lifestyles. Furthermore, we want to be found guilty of equipping God’s people to do His work. By encouraging the hip-hop ministers to get to know each other beyond the beats, beyond the rhymes & beyond the booth, we are corporately taking steps to overcome the division that springs forth from the spirit of competition, underlying agendas and egos. With the establishment of these fellowship networks, individuals position themselves to become “jointly” fitted and consequently become empowered to function in the way God intended. The Christian life involves more than just believing; Jesus never called anyone to just believe. This Christian life also includes belonging. We grow in Christ by being in relationship to other Christians. And as shai linne so eloquently put it, “Relationship must precede collaboration”.
We live in a unique and exciting time in the history of the Body of Christ; when its parts, under the headship of Christ, can be brought together in ways never before imagined. When we corporately unify by sharing efforts, experiences, passions & resources, we potentially channel the Spirit of God in ways that the world has yet to see. We acknowledge that the unity of sinful human beings is utterly unattainable but for one thing: our standard being the absolute dependence on the leadership of God’s Spirit. Such unity stands out because true, loving fellowship is alien to this world.
